Gateaux is a silver tabby neuter and a big softie who has a very high opinion of himself. He’s the feline boss of the house, who keeps all the girls under control and stops them squabbling.
His weakness is food. He absolutely loves it and the more there is the better, in his opinion. We often come downstairs in the morning to find teeth marks in the bulk bags of dry cat food he has managed to find in the garage and a very happy Gateaux, smugly licking his face.
He has a laid back, placid nature that makes him prone to laziness. He will even tolerate a bath, because he knows it means he’s going to a show and will make him look even more beautiful!
Gateaux enjoys going to shows for the adventure of staying in hotels and only asks to have a room with a view. At the show itself he’s happy being handled by anyone and really knows how to work his charm on the judges. As a result he has won lots of rosettes and cups, which are now taking over the garden shed.
‘Bob’ was my daughter’s choice, although we ended up with her by accident. We knew we wanted another cat, ideally a boy (hence the name) - as a companion for Gateaux and we were waiting for our breeder to have a litter from my daughter’s favourite queen. Joleen’s kittens were stunning, but when we went to visit them, a kitten from another litter in the household stole the show.
Mysti is blue and white and the feline matriarch of our breeder’s household and this was her last litter before she was neutered. She had four kittens and one of them was a little tortie tabby called Shannon who crawled all over us as soon as we got there.
Bob has only been to a few shows, however on her first outing she won Best of Breed and qualified for the Supreme. She didn’t particularly seem to enjoy the experience so we have decided to respect her wishes and now leave her at home on show days.
Bob matured very early and became frustrated at not becoming a mother, so we allowed her to be mated at just under a year old.
Motherhood really suited her and she produced 3 beautiful female kittens in 2006 and clearly adored every minute of looking after them. In 2007 she had a litter of 5 kittens. A few days later Bob’s daughter had her kittens and the two Mum’s shared duties for all the kittens right up until the day they left for their new homes.
We hope to have a further litter from Bob, but at the moment she is enjoying lazing about in the garden and cuddling up next to us.
Me-Me is a very private, shy female, neutered Maine Coon who has an extensive vocabulary. She has very pretty features, a strong muscular body and is the most stunning rich red colour to compliment her classic tabby markings.
Me-Me was our first introduction to pedigree cats and showing and was re-homed with us by a friend and work colleague. Thinking we were doing her a favour we got her a Norwegian Forest Cat boy kitten to be a companion, however Me-Me took one look at the new arrival, hissed and walked away. She has treated every new addition in the same way and is much happier with human contact. She has her reserved sleeping spot on the bed and none of the other cats would dream of challenging her for this premium space.
We showed her one time only, she hated it, but came away with some very nice rosettes, so now stays at home. Me-Me’s favourite colour is orange and she is often found sleeping on orange objects in the house.
She was the second kitten to be born from my first litter. Named to represent the many colours of her textured coat, Kiki is the spitting image of her tortie tabby mother Bob, except she has an orange stripe down her nose. She has been neutered and I will breed from her line through her sister, Astrid. She has matured into a muscular young lady and developed the glossy, thick coat, NFC’s are renowned for.
We show KiKi regularly and she has done very well. She has a gentle unassuming nature and allows the other cats to boss her around.
Astrid was born jet black with a few stray white hairs on her tummy. She has since grown a majestic, smoky grey ruff and an impressive bushy tail. She spends most of her time outside and on wet and windy days can often be found curled up in a cat basket in the shed.
Like her Mother, she matured very early and with a strong desire to be a Mum herself. In July 2007 she gave birth to 4 brown tabby kittens and was a perfect and attentive mother from the start. Having an abundance of milk herself she happily shared this with our other litter of 5 kittens and sometimes all you could hear was a loud purr from her underneath a multitude of happy suckling kittens.
Astrid is at her happiest expecting kittens or nursing them and doesn’t enjoy the show scene.
Cosima is a brown tabby from our 2007 litter, who we kept out of sheer indulgence. Although approaching adulthood she is very juvenile and still searches in vain for a teat on Gateaux, our only male.
She is very naughty and provokes trouble and generally disrupts the household, just to get her own way. In spite of this, the other cats tolerate her behavior and end up having to play her very energetic games or pamper to her whims, by grooming her. Demanding and extravert as she can be, we all love her very much.
She’s extremely vocal and has a large range of squeaks and trills, with some very loud purring to accompany it. She loves being taken to shows where she can be the legitimate centre of attention.
